Semester 3 | Week 2

Due to the fact that I ran this website through the accessibility tests last year, I tested the accessibility of the Instead of Redface website. Regann did a good job when they handed it off to me, especially with the coloring. One thing I noticed is that rather than headers textboxes of different sizes were used for titles. The website nonetheless was well organized and information properly spaced, so I left that as it was. What I did update was a lot of the alt texts. It was sometimes hard to fit an apt description in one-to-two sentences, especially when the images used were photos of theatrical performances. Writing descriptions kind of seemed like writing poetry–not because I was necessarily trying to create flowery descriptions, but because I wanted to pack vivid imagery within a tiny space. One area of uncertainty was that some of the buttons we were using on the website (see the secondary resources page) are images with text on them that link to their corresponding article. Although these images did have alt text with the title and their color, I’m not sure if this violates Vivero’s accessibility guidelines. It is a nice design, however. In the future, I will pay attention to how the individual dramatist pages are laid out to make sure that they are organized in an accessible manner.
