Semester 2 | Week 1 Reflection

As a returning Vivero fellow, I would tell new fellows to never be afraid of using google or just playing around with a website like a sandbox. Per the latter, most websites will not totally break if a mistake is made in editing, and taking design risks can provide valuable learning lessons. Moreover, the internet has a wealth of resources on web design, even on random niche problems. A student once came in with a very specific problem that I had no initial clue about, but a few googles later we got it sorted out. I would also recommend that new fellows set aside a time each week beyond drop-in shifts to work on their websites. I started the semester in this routine last year, then it slowly degraded as I got busier and Vivero work got more frantic. This to say, that learning on the job as a Vivero fellow involves not only learning about digital techniques but also learning work methods as well.
