Semester 2 | November Reflection

Here is my donut! Learning Blender was super fun. My first challenge was to learn all the different keybinds and commands. Some of them took a bit of getting used to. After this, I worked my way through a YouTube tutorial on how to design a 3D donut in blender. The tutorial was an in-depth walkthrough, taking me through the learning process step-by-step. I think the thing that stuck out about Blender the most to me is polygon count. Although it is easy to raise the polygon account of an object—or amount of faces it has to edit—as the design process goes on, it is harder to remove faces. Blender creates a mesh of rectangles/polygons around an object that can be edited, changing its proportions. Editing these faces was useful for making the frosting on my donut look liquidity. In the future, I might like to explore more with the textures of objects and the materials they can be made out of. Additionally, exploring the animation features in my own time could be cool. I think that while Blender has a steep learning curve, it is not so unapproachable that it cannot be used for simple projects, whether they be art or otherwise.
