It was an amazing semester, I am glad I started working with Vivero. All the technical skills I have learned are very helpful, from WordPress/Elementor to StoryMaps to MediaWiki, however I have also learned a lot of soft skills, particularly in problem solving and how to most efficiently look things up. I feel confident in the digital tools that I have under my belt, and feel that I could apply them in other contexts. I did have the opportunity to help someone with their website during drop-in hours, wherein I learned that a lot of the mentoring process is looking up stuff myself and doing research on how to best fix a problem.
I would tell my past self to be less stressed about the learning curve because it was the right amount of challenging but still very manageable. While some programs were limited in what they could do, if there was a way to do something there was always a way to figure out how. Moreover, I also really enjoyed the self-set pace of the training. The accessibility stuff has stuck with me the most as it is what probably gets brought up the most when I am working on my Vivero project. The most confusing section was probably ArcGIS and Excell, especially with the big tables of data. I was able to complete those training without help, though.
This week I am going to work on some general documentation, such as the features of the website, its purpose, individual pages, and some of the broader technical aspects like site identity and plugins. Next semester I will tackle the more niche and/or detail-oriented tasks, documenting them by explaining what exactly needs to be done in WordPress/Elementor to achieve a task. For this it may be helpful to work with my project lead and see if she understands what I have written.
In the future I would like to keep exploring MediaWiki, WordPress, and StoryMaps, but am interested in learning more about digital scholarship tools like Voyant. That said, I am working with MediaWiki for a class final project and will probably continue the project after class, so perhaps I could focus more on learning about WordPress or StoryMaps in Vivero. It may also be good for me to learn more about Excel from the perspective of professional development. ArcGIS would be another problem I could learn more about. I have done a bit with Voyant in class but would like to learn more. I am happy to be apart of the Vivero Team!
